Hi all, I was wondering how you all get a good nights sleep. As I haven’t slept for a month due to neck muscles weakening. I can’t lift my head to swallow saliva. So I am propped up on pillows and keep sliding down the bed. Do you have any tips or tricks to make my life any better. Thanks in advance

Hi House44
My husband has this issue with his neck, we have invested in lots of different kinds of pillows with no luck. My husband has a hospital bed and raising the bit behind the knees stops him sliding down as much. Husband started the Hosycine travel sickness patches one week ago and it has helped his saliva issue a lot. He now has dry mouth but husband agrees that this is much better than the plus plus saliva.
The patches are about the size of a 5p and go behind the ear, changes every 72 hours.
Best wishes
Edit to say the patches are prescribed by GP, if it is too drying. We cut them in half.

House44 Great to hear from you Wayne 😘
Have to agree with my pals - I don't think you have a profiling bed , but one should help, even though the thought of it is horrible....
My reason for finally acquiescing to move into a hospital bed was neck pain - hard as I tried, I could not get comfortable on multiple pillows and, raising the head of the bed, meant I needed just the one pillow, swallowing was easier and better for NIV too.
What meds do you take to reduce saliva? xx

House44 I find that if my head isn't right up at the top of the bed, when the head of the bed is raised, I tend to slip down because my back is 'bent' in the wrong place by the bed.
I wonder if raising the end of the bed and/or putting a pillow under your legs would help?
There are other meds which reduce saliva production, including amitriptyline, which can help nerve pain and sleep - IDK if you've tried glycopyrronium?
Really hope you find a sleeping solution. xxDiagnosed 03/2007. Sporadic Definite ALS/MND Spinal (hand) Onset.
