    Dental issues

I have an appointment with my dentist in April but I’m concerned about going for a few reasons. 1. I’m constantly biting my toothbrush which I can’t control. How will that work when dentist is trying to do check up or do work. 2. If water goes down my throat I’m liable to choke. 3. I need tartar removed which is now pretty bad but that’s going to be problematic. Anyone else had similar problems and how did it work?
Bulbar ALS diagnosed September 2021, no speech, PEG fed, using ipad with Predictable to communicate, taking each day as it comes

Hakuna I was pretty concerned with going to the dentist, including choking. After telling the dentist my concerns, they were great in stopping to check I was okay, using suction etc. Can you write your concerns before you go? x
Diagnosed July 2020, ALS bulbar onset. PEG and ventilator (mainly at night), and pretty poor speech, but legs still about functioning!

Have a chat with your dentist and, if you don't get good vibes from her or him, switch dentists.

I am the same - I always bite down on the dentist's mirror and have even tried a finger or two 😏 Dentists are pretty adept at getting tools and digits out of the way, or most of the way at least!

I don't get any water - it would choke me - the dentist only uses air in my mouth, which does the job.

It might take two visits but for sure you can take a break whenever you need when you're in the dentist's chair.

      Good luck xx
