Thank you for the link Kayleigh – and “butt floss”. I must have lived a very sheltered life. I didn’t know such things existed. They look quite uncomfortable. I think I’ll stick to good old M&S, with HOM and Calvin Klein for special occasions.

Thanks for the other tip CC. That’s an aspect of American culture I wasn’t aware of. But I’m not sure about commando. On the rare occasions I’ve come across it, the gesture has always been appreciated. But generally I feel that unwrapping my presents is all part of the fun……..

I've heard of the saying 'Red Shoes, No Knickers!' (and no, I don't wear red shoes Doug!!! Lol: ) but I've never heard that about the ladies of New York, CC. Perhaps some of them need to save their money for all those Botox parties you told me about! They must be tough cookies coping with all those draughts, and very brave/daring if they are not wearing trousers on a windy day (as Victoria's 'Secret' might not stay secret for very long!! Lol).

Barry makes a good point about being wary of trouser zips - and I think that wearing a substantial protective layer like long-johns is very sensible! I don't like being exposed to draughts and so it's big Granny knickers and old-fashioned bloomers for me!! Lol

I have question back Kayleigh are knickers pants or underwear in your country ? I thought they were pants, but if the expression is 'Red shoes, no knickers' then it sounds like underwear to me? I never heard that expression before but probably because 'knickers' is not word used here.

We rarely say 'trousers' here it does mean pants, but its an old school term for them, sometimes the pants of a man's suit could be referred to as 'trousers', but again rare. We say pants and if it's the pants are denim material we say jeans.

No stockings either, remember those ?? bare legs, but its been that way for awhile now.

Commando is liberating....give it a try Barry, just kidding lol best to keep warm especially in the winter time

Trousers are called pants in the north west of England - and it's very confusing! I call trousers 'trousers' and the things I wear underneath I call pants. However, my carers all call trousers 'pants' and they call pants 'knickers'! We have some strange conversations when they are trying to dress me!
