I use my commode all the time to transfer me from bed/chair to the loo. I don’t have the bucket underneath and hubby wheels me over the loo. When I’m done he wheels me back to my chair. It is easy for hubby as we have a tiled floor but may be harder on carpet to push about.

AngieCanuck the nurse on Sunday was an RPN. Pretty sure that looking at my knee was above her pay grade. And it wasn’t that bad when she was at the house. Swelling got worse later in the evening.
The nurse practitioner will be out tomorrow.
I dread the thought of having to leave the house. I can’t transfer, so our car is out of the question. We have very limited options for wheelchair accessible transportation out my way. I’ll cross that bridge tomorrow, if the nurse thinks I need to go in.
Barb is a sweetheart and quite efficient, but even she can’t make my local hospital less of a ****-show.

Maria C was the nurse able to have a look at your knee? Has the swelling or pain been relieved? I wonder if you shouldn’t email/phone Barb at the clinic to see if she could expedite an X-ray?

AngieCanuck Thankfully a nurse did make it last night to put in the catheter. I’d have been screwed without it. I can’t weight-bear on this knee and I could only walk about 20 steps at a time before I fell. Right now I’m wheelchair bound and haven’t the strength to transfer without using the Hoyer lift. This house is not equipment friendly.

shelly21 The nurse will be around on Wednesday morning to look at my knee. I was lucky to get someone out on a Sunday to put in the catheter. I live in a semi-rural area and visiting healthcare workers are thinly spread.
Only a badly pulled cruciate ligament? We use the word “only” a bit lightly. Ouch.
LindaB My husband went out and bought a wheeled commode today. I got the idea from Ellie in another post. At least I’ll have some options when my knee stops hurting enough that we can lift me without seeing stars.

Maria C ouch sounds nasty. I slipped 2 years ago on wet ground and my leg ended up in the wrong position. I ended up at a & e for an x Ray. Luckily for me it was a bad pull of the cruciate ligament.
but I remember I couldn'coget comfy.
I'm hoping the nurses look after you and you can find a comfortable position x

Ellie Thank you.
I’m a bit concerned about trying to get a scan or x-ray done. Transportation to the hospital will be a problem, and then waiting around sitting in my wheelchair. I can’t really bend the knee so I’d be in agony.
I’ve been promised a visiting nurse (nurse practitioner) to assess it here at home. Even with ibuprofen and ice, it’s the size of a small cantelope.

Sorry to hear that Maria.

Maria C I’m so sorry to hear that you’ve hurt your knee. It sounds painful! I hope it’s just bruised and the swelling goes down quickly. It must be disappointing to have to get a catheter, I’m sorry 😩
I’m sure getting the nurse care will be a feat, as things move so slowly here in Ontario.
Sending hugs your way! 😘❤️

Knee trouble
This evening, on the way back to my chair from the toilet, my legs decided that they weren’t going to play nice any more. I was still about 8 feet from my chair when they wobbled. My husband tried to help, but I ended up in a heap on the floor with my legs bent at awkward angles. The left leg seems okay, but my right knee is swollen and sore. I can’t bend it to get comfortable.
As an added bonus, since I’m not ambulatory, I had to contact the visiting nurses to have a catheter put in. Neither the bathroom nor my bedroom door will accommodate the lift easily.
This time last year I was happily working in the kitchen, making Tiramisu for my husband’s birthday. Sigh.Tags: None
