    MND & weak teeth

This sounds mad but since my diagnosis my teeth appear to have become weaker… I’ve had a filling come out, a crown needing replacement and tonight eating a sandwich half a back tooth just came away ☹️
    Diagnosed 17/2/22
summer 2020 - Left arm onset
Jan 2022 - breathing now affected

I've lost a couple crowns and had some cracks in my back molars need repairing. I assumed due to jaw spasticity/ tooth clenching. I have never had the most robust of teeth, but the dental work I've needed doing in the last few years is definitely more than before my diagnosis.

Chelle73 I also wonder if you're grinding and/or clenching your teeth.

I have to wear a mouthguard at night which my dentist made, it's a small, unobtrusive and comfortable acrylic mouthguard. xx

3 my teeth were always great. But I've also had lots of issues. I've had 1 taken out (1st ever) chipped 2 and the colour of my teeth are so bad.

I've always looked after my teeth.

My teeth are so discoloured and irregular now, and I dread needing the dentist again. Last time the dentist was so kind, and did what he could to treat me as raised as possible for my breathing. My jaw does clang shut sometimes, with worrying jarring on my teeth. Don’t know if they get weaker with MND, I take Adcal anyway because of osteopenia. X

Heather R hi, was wondering if you could advise on non foaming toothpaste /mouthwash. Have tried to look on forum but patience and energy levels are zero. I don't know if just to ask my doctor. Peggy mcpeggy is on its way and not a moment too soon. Scary how quickly the weight falls off. Thanks x

Hairbsb I am afraid this is one thing I have never looked into, I just go for the supposed whitening and protecting Colgate or something, don’t know if I am missing a trick here. Best of luck with your PEG x

                  Good morning everyone,

Just wondering if anybody is currently taking Tudca. My doc was not too happy about me taking it even though its a component of amylex. Do they just tell you not to take it coz it's not medication and she just kept on about Riluzole only. I did try the riluzole when I came out of hospital and I don't know if it's because I was weak from being in hospital but it made me extremely tired and I fell down the stairs I lost my footing. I only told my children last night that I've mnd it was difficult and so upsetting but I feel a weight lifted.
But getting back to tudca, does anyone take it? And what has your neurologist said to you?

Many thanks and I hope your all OK today, stay strong

Tish I bought it but the taste of it is too awful as a powder. Something has happened to my taste buds. I've done research on supplements. Right now can only stomach reversatrol, and q10 for all the difference its making

Actually Heather R you raised a good point there - oral health can suffer both because brushing one's teeth can be difficult and a visit to the dentist's chair can be either traumatic or impossible, once saliva is an issue or indeed, even getting into the chair itself.

Saliva is antibacterial so, if there isn't much of it in the mouth, teeth can stay acidic.

Most dentists are accommodating with frequent breaks, using only air not water, to clean debris out of the mouth, once they know a person has difficulties. Some dentists even offer home visits.

Thanks for bringing it up 😘😘

Tish I'm always getting the thread wrong. On another point about oral health I can't swoosh the water around my mouth. The toothpaste just sits in my chops as does everything else and on tatiana tongue also. Will Google xx
