    Hi,

Congrats on getting the funding in place 👍🥳

Have you a nurse practitioner already handling your case at the CHC end, if so they should be explaining all of the next steps to you? You will also eventually have somebody appointed to you to help you with the financial side of things too. They will be agreeing with you what your budget is and how it should be spent.

What happens with care also depends on what your options are for the care provider. You can use the budget to fund your own PAs or you can use it to buy the care you require from an approved care agency. With regards to care agencies the NHS will put your requirement out for tender but you are quite limited to only the providers that they have on their list. Coming away from that list is quite tricky unless you already have an agency provider in place and they are also prepared to work for the NHS rate which is lower than local authority rates.

Well done though I have no idea and possibly its different area to area anyway? Shows how few people have got it because no one knows the answer. 🤔
when i can think of something profound i will update this.

I am CHC funded. I couldn’t cope with organising anything myself, so my care manager (I think!) approached several agencies before finding one that could take me on. The care manager and I met the manager of the care agency, and a care plan was made, agreeing hours and tasks. Hope you find good help x
Diagnosed July 2020, ALS bulbar onset. PEG and ventilator (mainly at night), and pretty poor speech, but legs still about functioning!

We were already down the direct payments route when social care funded and when we got CHC funding nothing really changed other than funded hours and hourly rate increased. We already had PA's in place and could thankfully keep the same ones.

It took a while to find PA's but we were very lucky that we got good ones.
Carer for husband diagnosed with ALS April 2021. Hand onset. PEG fed, completely immobile, communicated with eye gaze

            Sense of humour intact throughout.

            Sadly passed away peacefully 2/9/22

My husband was awarded CHC funding following an appeal. One of the assessors was designated as our support worker. She and her team found and organised his care so we haven’t had to do anything. They are very helpful and we have been able contact them regarding any aspect of his care.

It may be that CHC teams in different authorities work differently, but it might be worth contacting your team for their advice. Their contact details will be on the award letter.

We had already started to look for care following the earlier decision not to award funding. We had useful advice from the Urgent Care Team which is part of Social Services, including lists of agencies providing care.

You could also contact your local Healthwatch. This is an organisation that deals with issues regarding health and social care. They are also very good at signposting to other services. Recently I was totally unable to find out how my housebound husband could get his COVID booster and they sorted it out for us. None of the other health professionals (including our GP practice) had any useful advice!

We have just had our CHC funding turned down, has anyone got any advice for an appeal? I can't believe it!

Hi, I'm finally getting there with CHC, at last. Does anyone have there husband /wife or partner as part of their employed care team? There seems to be blurred lines surrounding this.

I don’t think you can employ family members as part of your team?

Daniel Fudge-Harman NHS CHC Personal Budgets appears to have regulations prohibiting directly employing 'carers' living at the same address as the recipient, as laid out in a 2017 Ammendment to the The National Health Service (Direct Payments) Regulations 2013.

But I would still ask, if I were you, it's in Legalese, not English.

                              The 2017 Ammendment is here
