Hi. I have ALS so have a hoist to transfer. My medical people are asking me to consider having a PEG fitted but I am concerned about it being aggreviated when using the toileting sling that I currently use. At the moment the sling rides up and down over my abdomen. Has anyone else had this problem. My OT has suggested other slings but they all seem to have their own difficulties when needing to remove underwear.

It might be slightly off topic, and you have probably already been on Altraplen (its only after I lost over 20KG about 20 percent of my body weight that they put me on it and someone kept coming in and making me smoothies), but it is such a good thing if swallowing is an issue. Just suggesting if your people haven't gone that way first. Not every system is perfect. As my neuro physio said on Friday "there has been an almighty balls up". I think its a medical expression.

Viv Azouz Any strap across the tummy area does not need to be tightly pulled. Mine is clipped closed but kept quite loose, and nothing aggravates my PEG tube.
If the sling you have isn't working well for you, then the OT should find you one which does. There are various brands of toileting slings, here are some designs; might one of these work for you, do you think?
