    Landlords have said yes.

    Second Amazing Day.
My landlord has said yes "to anything that needs doing to the house".
So now I can contact the team that came around yesterday and say. Go go go to the rails and things.

Christopher That's great news, it must be a great relief. The rails etc will make such a difference.
Started limping 2017, diagnosed August 2021. Wheelchair user and reduced shoulder and hand function. Trying to be positive 😺.

That's great news, I'm sure they'll be really helpful. I've been trying to persuade my Dad that a few rails might be good but he remains as stubborn as ever!

Claireflo I think its a common thing to keep rejecting that there is any wrong with you and to try and battle and beat it, which just makes you weaker and more tired. If animals are ill they curl up and rest. Us humans seem to think the best thing to do is push harder.

After a good telling off by the doctors and OTs at the hospital a few weeks ago I accepted what I had been denying for a long time. Then all of a sudden you realise how much better things can be when you accept some help.

By the way, it was a lot easier to use the bannister after the OT and Physio took the Christmas lights off them yesterday .

They also want to put a rail on the other side so that I can keep using the bedroom for as long as possible.

It is the true understanding of the professionals that is wonderful.

Just like when I explained the issue of stepping from the shower, even though its a almost level with the floor. As the physio explained "there is a big gap between the next thing you can grab and that's why you panic".

Just wonderful having people that understand.

I am lucky that the recent interactions I have had have been positive and helpful. I wish that on all.

I call it “the shower chair slope”…at first the shower chair sat in a box, hidden in the basement. My stomach did flips whenever it was mentioned that I should be using it. I thought, “once this damned thing comes out of the box then it will never go away!” But reality bit and I needed it. Then came the walker (rollator), and the manual travel wheelchair, and now I’m getting a scooter. The shower chair started the whole ball rolling down hill 😒😑🙈🏔

My husband kept saying he was alright. He didn't need anything. He didn't want his riser chair or use the chairlift. He didn't want the seat in the shower. I told him without the chairlift the only way I'd get him out would be to sit him on a tray and slide him down the stairs through the hallway down some further stairs and if I positioned the car just right get him into the back.

                🙂

Yes I have been almost in hiding for the last three years. The walker has made so much difference. Though I can only use it for a short distance.

Have a conundrum about scooters and wheelchairs.

I am not strong enough to sit upright so would not be able to use a scooter. Arms would get too tired trying to reach handles too.

Need something where the top half of my body is strapped back onto seat.

In a car I have seat right forward and reclined so I can push back a bit from wheel, but still slump forward and to the right. Think my driving days are done.

Really need to work out an electric wheelchair that reclines and has straps on torso. Then of course you have to have a vehicle for that to go into and someone to drive it.

Sorry its my moan day today.

Did the subject of a wheelchair arise during the OT's visit?

Straps are easy to get accessories, if needed, but lateral supports are probably a 'must have'.

The wheelchair process can take months, so best get the ball rolling.

Just for anybody who is reading this thread who may be interested in where the law sits on making adjustments to a rented property…..

A Landlord cannot refuse a ‘reasonable request’ to make adaptation or adjustment to the rented property and refusing without good reason is in breach of the equalities act of 2010.

However what constitutes a reasonable request or indeed what can be considered for adaption is explained in detail here by the citizens advice bureau…..

The subject of wheelchairs didn't really come up.

I said to the physio and OT "for years I have seen people in mobility scooters and thought, I wouldn't be able to use those"

At the hospital though when I was last admitted a few weeks ago they said I should be considering it.

It would be lovely to get out and about as I can only use a walker for a very short distance.

Was going to contact them today as had three falls on way to bed last night.

Thank you also JamesW I was so scared of speaking to the landlord. So it took so much pressure off when they said yes.

Thank you thank you Ellie after things that happened last night the wheelchair needs pushing up my agenda
