Hi everyone... My dad is getting drops and patches for excess saliva in a couple of days, I was told to get him to try the drops up to 4 times a day under his tongue and if they don't work to try these patches behind his ear... She said the patches are to be placed behind the ear for up to 72hrs per patch although she said that it might dry things up too much and they some people wear the patch during the day and take it off at night or viceversa,, or that some people cut the patch in half if it's too much..... Also to alternate where it's placed... I'm wondering who all has these and what they found worked for them? And is the patch small and discreet?.... Any advice would be great thankyou ... Katrina x

Kat I had hyacine patches. They made marks like putting a cigarette out. Check after 8 hours for reaction. Dude x

Hi Katrina;
Some people find they help and maybe more don't find they work. I would try one thing at a time for about ten days.

The patches gave me double vision and the drops rubbish so I ended up on tablets.
I suffer from secretions a lot.

mama ducks daughter
Hi Katrina.
Mum used these patches for a while and they did work......BUT.......suddenly without warning she dried up totally. As she had no saliva in her mouth she started choking and it frightened her. After that we cut the patch in half and moved it around her neck......the same still happened and it was always sudden dry mouth and choking. As I said they did work but just be aware...especially if you dad is on his own........ There are a few ladies in mums nursing home that use them with no problems. They are about the size of a small round plaster (penny) and skin coloured.
After telling you all that Mum might just be an anomaly because her mouth dries up with morphine if taken too frequently.

Hi Katrina .. Reading back on some postings some people take kwells ( used for travel sickness ) to dry the saliva so if the patches or drops are not suitable enquire about the kwells .. My friend uses the patches with no side effect but he does not have them on permanently .. When he feels the saliva is not as bad (dried up a bit) and before he gets to dry he stops the patches ...he tries to go as long as possible before he uses another patch .. DVD

Hi mama ducks ..... Il bear that in mind when trying them with dad, do you think maybe it's worthwhile maybe trying a quarter patch and build it up?
Hi dvd,, il give that a try and see how it goes, good idea taking it off for a bit and waiting until the next one is needed rather than just leaving it on.
Hi Steve, I'm going to note down those names off stuff and see how it goes then can always come to them if need be.
I'm guessing everyone is different to what they can and cannot tolerate, side effects etc.. Will need to see how these things go ... Thanks guys ..... Katrina x
