    Cough assist

I’ve just been provided with a cough assist machine. I’m told people either love them or hate them . Any views or experiences to share?? Lizzie

During use, it can feel a bit brutal but the relief of getting rid of the gunk is generally deemed worth it 😏

    Good luck Lizzie.

I get on fine with mine Lizzie. I did get the settings tweaked once I'd got used to it so it felt it was more effective. It gives your lungs/chest a bit of a workout too which has to be a good thing

My appointment with the breathing team on 28th October. They came to my usual clinic in Salford Royal from their centre at Wythenshaw. They suggested that I go in to their centre as a day case. They’d show me and Steve how a cough assist device works. We’d be able to practice with it and then when comfortable with it take it home. I haven’t accepted this yet because I’m drinking pineapple every day first to see if this does anything positive and after about two weeks of this it seems to be helping. Lynne

I'm staying positive and taking each day as it comes.

I have had one for several years and use it occasionally when I am very phlegmy and also have a nebuliser that is more useful for thinning phlegm. That's very easy to use so maybe talk to your respiratory nurse.
              Take care xx
