    Botox

Hi everyone. After reading on here about botox, I asked for a referral. I go tomorrow. I'm wanting to try it for my jaw. Its locking quite badly.
My swallow is still decent but i am finding my jaw is very tight and stiff.

I know its used in saliva control. Anyone had botox in the jaw area?

shelly21 Never had Botox in a jaw muscle, no.

When you're chatting with the doctor tomorrow, ask if your ability to chew and to hold your mouth closed might be negatively impacted, given that the muscles might be a tad weak already.

Really hope it works well for you. xx

Thank you Ellie. I was told waiting list was months but triage is done to put the patient in priority order. I was only referred 10 days ago so im very happy to have been given a quick appointment x

Claireflo & Ellie it went very well. Basically there are 2 major muscles in the jaw and one if mine has sized up. I will have the botox injections in about 2 weeks.

Interestingly Ellie he explain that lorazepam is a muscle relaxer and to try whilst I'm waiting for botox.

Oh that all sounds good Shelly, roll on 2 weeks! My leg muscles took a few days to lengthen out, so don't swear if you can't see an immediate improvement 😏

Yes, benzos are muscle relaxants. The 'issue' in using Lorazepam as a muscle relaxant is that its effectiveness is short lived so a longer lasting Diazepam is better, but I daresay you'll cope with Lorazepam for ~2 weeks - although if the jaw is particularly bad at night, you can talk to your GP. xx

Ellie he did say that there are for and against. I've done lots of reading up and don't expect miracles. My niv is important to me and the respiratory clinic explained that its less effective if my mouth is closed.

I wake biting my lower lip. Gives me horrid headaches.

I know it might only be one shot but he said the leaflet said 3 to 4 months effective but he thinks 5 to 6 months.
