Exploring the electro-mechanical coupling of fasciculations in motor neurone disease

The full title of this study, in which I participated this morning is "Exploring the electro-mechanical coupling fasciculations in motor neurone disease using surface electromyography and ultrasound; a feasibility study".

The researchers want to explore and compare the different outputs of these 2 techniques when used together. They believe it can offer significant insight into how the function of neurons become impaired in MND.

In the overall aims to create a technique which can be used more extensively in future clinical trials as a way of detecting the potential benefits of new drug therapies in MND.

Trial undertaken by nice pair of pre-doctoral researchers, one a biomedical physicist and the other one a medical doctor in the early stage of his training.

Diagnosed 03/2015. One sided limb onset (arm) sporadic ALS/MND. MND hitting - now 50% left arm and 90% right arm, plus other bits including left shoulder
