    Time for a cough machine???

    Hi folks

Looks like a cough machine is being arranged for me 🤨 Having few episodes a day of uncontrolled coughing. Please any advice, recommends , comments of any sort if you are using one. Not as yet had anything explained to me about it so extra input from yourselves always useful.

    Keep smiling

Hi Shirl - from what I've heard heard it's called a cough-assist. Think it helps expel mucus but others will be able to tell more xx

Shirl, a Cough Assist machine is a great bit of kit, so hopefully it will get rid of any secretions in your airways which are causing you to cough. It does feel very strange at first, almost brutal, but you get used to the feeling.

This short video explains what it does:

      Love Ellie.

If you want to watch the machine in action and get the full guided tour, so to speak, this is a longer video (10min) xx

And lastly, a low dose of Oramorph can ease the cough, but not everyone wants to take opioids. xx

Thank you so much. Appreciate the video Ellie. Is it used once everyday and for a short length of time as in the video?

            xx

Maybe more than than once Shirl, depends on what the therapist says, and only for short periods each time. xx

I was given a cough assist machines but haven’t used it yet. I tried drinking pineapple juice every day and that’s still working for me still. But I’ll watch that videos that you put up Ellie for a refresher. Thanks

When I first tried the cough assist machine it made it harder for me to cough which isn’t what it’s designed to do. So watching the videos may show something that’s helps and evening it’ll need to be re-set. Lynne x

The enzymes in pineapple and papaya juice help thin secretions Shirl, so mucus isn't as thick and sticky but you still need to cough it up and swallow it. Be aware that it can also thin your saliva which, if you already have a saliva issue, isn't ideal. xx
