Many thanks for the link Lynne. As you say, an interesting – certainly very thorough – piece of research.
I mentioned recently the C9orf72 study that I and John Burton are involved in and I’m coming to the view that progress towards at least a partial treatment – though not a cure – may come quicker for familial MND than sporadic MND.
At least the C9orf72 hexanucleotide repeat and the NMD pathway suggests specific targets for further research. But we need to remember there’s a long road from fruit flies and mouse models to human patients.

but it’s to a recent paper that I think summarizes very well the present state of knowledge about MND, especially the gene-mediated forms. I’m slightly biased because it’s by the team at the Nuffield Department for Clinical Neuroscience at the John Radcliffe, who look after me so expertly.
Still a long way to go!
