    No, I did not - as Doug says above, it seems to hark back to the epidemiological** Doll (sp?) studies concerning the link between smoking and cancer.

    Also, as Doug says this model has been talked about in other places, for me at the Crick Institute, where the suggestion was being made that having one of the genetic variants of MND put you on the "top step".

    The researcher concerned, freely admitted on my questioning that he had no evidence for this statement but that it just seems logical!

    I've read only the abstract, but the Australian study seems to confirm quite nicely the six stage model that has emerged in recent years. The model itself harks back to cancer studies.
