My neurologist has been playing with mice in this regard and was suggesting that he had some positive results.
I have sent him this link As he is presently riding his bike to Paris to raise money for the MND Association - errr

one strain of gut bacteria , Akkermansia muciniphila, significantly slowed disease progression in the mice and prolonged their survival.
