    Anxious about mnd

    Hi guys I'm a 28 year old female and as long as I can remember I've had bad health anxiety. Recently I've started getting cramping in my arms legs and hands. Recently just walking around the mall felt like an uphill walk with how heavy my legs felt. I haven't been tripping or anything but I feel weaker, unsure if this is due to anxiety or it is actually there. I'm also getting twitching in both legs. My GP Recently tested my strength, reflexes and sensations and said they are all perfect. Some times I feel like my issues aren't listened to as the doctor blames everything on my anxiety. Does this sound like it could be mnd? I'm so anxious I feel sick

    Hi anxiety girl. I think if your GP found anything amiss she/he would have referred you on just to cover themself if for no reason. Best wishes

        Hi Anxietygirl. I’m sorry that you’re worrying about whether or not you have MND. Having been already diagnosed with anxiety this could potentially be a problem for getting taken seriously. But your GP ought to know you best. It however makes me think of an age old problem when women went to see their GP. They were sometimes diagnosed with neurosis when they presented with non easily seen symptoms. Things were missed, even cancer. My ex mother in law succumbed to this. I would hope that those days are long gone. But having anxiety already could complicate matters.

        Unfortunately none of us on here are qualified to diagnose anybody. But I would suggested (as a lay person) that you keep in touch with your GP and steer clear of doctor google. I wouldn’t be surprised if stress could cause curious symptoms but I think that keeping an eye on them is important just in case there’s anything serious going on.

        I'm staying positive and taking each day as it comes.

          Hi Anxiety girl,
          It usually takes a referral to a neurologist for further tests etc if your GP felt it is needed.
          Would it help to keep a journal of symptoms in case you need to return to your GP.?The trouble is I guess health anxiety manifests in so many physical ways.If symptoms continue /increase would you return to your GP giving a detailed description of physical symptoms and the time frame of what has changed since your saw the GP.
          I guess you have strategies that help with the anxiety but it must be overwhelming at times.

            Thank you for your input guys. Yes Mary very overwhelming I have young children so that definitely adds to the anxiety. Has anyone experienced pain in the arms legs and hands in the early days? I feel horrible that I have joined this forum when I am likely but when I convince myself I have something wrong it feels very real to me.

                Just wondering do you do exercise at home or outdoors as that might help your anxiety as well as keep you fit.Also relaxation talks. Music on you tube.I know you will be busy with young children but squeeze in a bit of time for you

                    • I am trying to help you see that the thoughts are irrational. I know how mental illness works and that it tries to find an excuse to consume the victim at every turn.

                      Ultimately you can only defeat it yourself by realising that it is trying to destroy you.

                        Thank you I really am trying. I'll be feeling okay then ill get some twitching (currently in my ankle) and go into this spiral of anxiety again.
