    Chrissie, I'm sorry to hear about your dear Douglas. It must be very hard and upsetting for you. I hope that whilst Douglas is in hospital that you can have some 'me' time. I hope that his chest infection clears and they can sort out his CO2. Take care xx
    ALS diagnosed November 2017, limb onset. For the 4 yrs previously I was losing my balance.

    I'm staying positive and taking each day as it comes.

      Oh, Chrissie, I'm sorry Doug is back in Wythenshawe: it's so disappointing for both of you.

      I am also on the Ventilation Unit at the moment. Following on from Ellie's comment about discussing ongoing treatment, the nurse in charge of the Respiratory Nurses is called Debbie and she helps patients to complete an Advance Directive / Decision to Refuse Treatment (and probably also an Advance Care Plan). I know that she will be on the ward on Monday. The Macmillan nurses are also very helpful and staff on the ward will contact them for Doug, if he would like them to.

      If you are on the ward and need someone other than staff to talk to, please feel free to come and see me. I am in Bed 7, which is in the bay immediately opposite the Nurses' Station. I have plenty of tissues; my hugs are pretty feeble, but freely given; and I have as much or as little time as you need. No pressure, no obligation, just a little bolt hole if you need it. The offer is also open to Doug, of course.

      Trying to keep positive, but not always managing.

          My husband had his test done at home. I had to post the equipment which had the relevant data on it. We then had a home visit by the respiratory specialist nurse who can also did arterial bloods gases in our home with portable equipment. We were offered NIV, which my husband trialled. A great service, which I am sad other areas aren't getting.

            Hi Devonmaid;

            Great that you had the tests at home, so much nicer for hubby.

            Do you know what his arterial CO2 level was?

            Love Terry
