Beating MND Together - our five strategy promises

2022 marks an important year for the MND Association as we commit to five promises, aimed at focusing our efforts and harnessing the hope within our community for a world free of MND.

Our promises have been shaped by our community and will power everything we do.

We promise we won’t rest until:
    • MND is treatable and ultimately curable
    • Everyone gets the care they need when they need it
    • Every day with MND counts
    • You are heard
    • No one faces MND alone
Work has already started. We have projects underway to kickstart our journey towards delivering on our promises. These are being led by Association teams with support from people who can provide expertise, knowledge, skills and direction. That includes a number of people with and affected by MND who are at the heart of our promises and who have a vital part to play in their delivery.

These promises will give us renewed focus to work faster and fight harder than ever, together with our community.

We can’t do this on our own. But we can do this by working with you and the entire MND community.

You can keep up to date with our promises and the progress of our key projects at www.mndassociation.org/MNDPromises.
Our working hours are Monday to Friday 8:30am until 5pm

How many Smart units do we need. I thought there was to be one place . Centralise all resources into one Super centre , not monies in Grants spread thinly across the UK into the multiple Smart centres. How Stupid.

          Hi Billy,

Thank you for your comment on our promises. I’ve interpreted ‘smart unit’ to mean our care centres/networks and/or research centres. If the reference is to the potential UKMND Research Institute that’s been in the news, it’s not intended that this is going to be a single building, rather a ‘virtual’ collaborative network of multiple sites.

With regard to a single centre for care and/or research, the issue would be equity of access. Care centres/networks provide timely co-ordinated multidisciplinary care for people with MND in their locale. We wouldn’t want people with MND to have to travel hundreds of miles to receive their care. The same goes for research – expecting people to travel from all parts of the country to a single centre would greatly disadvantage and discourage people with MND from taking part in research. Clearly there’s a balance, which we are trying to achieve through our 22 care centres and networks, with the aim that people with MND should not have more than a one to two hour journey to attend clinic.

          Many thanks,
